The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of twelve short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, first published in 1892. The stories originally appeared in The Strand Magazine between 1891 and 1892, with illustrations by Sidney Paget that helped define the detective’s iconic appearance.
Each story follows the brilliant consulting detective Sherlock Holmes and his loyal companion Dr. John Watson as they solve baffling cases in and around Victorian London. The collection includes some of the most famous Holmes stories, among them “A Scandal in Bohemia,” “The Red-Headed League,” and “The Adventure of the Speckled Band.”
This first short story collection cemented Holmes as the most famous fictional detective in literature and established the template for the modern mystery genre. The stories remain widely read and have been adapted for stage, radio, film, and television for over a century.
