Edwin A. Abbott (1838–1926) was an English schoolmaster, theologian, and author best known for Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions. Published in 1884, Flatland is a satirical novella that uses a two-dimensional world to explore mathematical concepts of dimensionality while lampooning Victorian social hierarchy. The book has become a classic of science fiction and mathematical fiction.
