Willa Cather

American, 1873–1947

Willa Cather (1873–1947) was an American novelist who won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1923 for One of Ours. Her best-known works — My Ántonia, O Pioneers!, and The Song of the Lark — celebrate the immigrant experience and the spirit of the American frontier with lyrical prose and deep empathy. Cather grew up in Nebraska, and the Great Plains landscape and its resilient settlers became the defining subjects of her fiction.
