Many e-readers have their own email address: send a book there and it shows up on the device. BookShelves can send books to that address from your own email account.
Important: Email to E-Reader is part of BookShelves Pro.
Set it up once
Open Settings > Integrations (on a Mac: BookShelves > Settings, Integrations tab).
- Under E-Reader, choose your device type: Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook or reMarkable.
- Enter your device’s email address. Tap Find my … email if you don’t know it; it opens the maker’s instructions.
- Under Email Settings, enter the address you send from. BookShelves fills in the mail server details for common providers; check the server, Port, Username and Password.
- Tap Validate SMTP Settings to test the connection.
Tip: Gmail and some other providers don’t accept your normal password here. Create an app password (for Gmail at myaccount.google.com/apppasswords) and use that.
Note: Kindle only accepts mail from addresses on your approved list. Add your sending address in your Amazon account under the Send to Kindle settings.
Send a book
- Book page: tap Send to E-Reader.
- Library: right-click (Mac) or long-press (iPhone and iPad) a book and choose Send to Device.
Check the destination and tap Send. The file includes the title, authors and cover you set in BookShelves.

Files over 25 MB can’t be sent by email; most mail servers refuse them. On a Kindle, books sent by email appear under Docs.
For KOReader, sending over Wi-Fi is faster and has no size limit: see Calibre Wireless Server.
