PDFs keep their original page layout, so text size and font settings don’t apply. Instead you zoom and choose how many pages to show.
Zoom
- Mac: ⌘ + zooms in, ⌘ − zooms out, and ⌘ 0 fits the page to the window again.
- iPhone and iPad: pinch to zoom.
One page or two
- Mac: open Appearance (⌘ ⇧ A) and choose a Page Layout: Single Page, Two-Page Spread or Auto (a spread when the window is wide enough).
- iPhone and iPad: open the reader menu and choose Layout.
On a Mac, PDFs turn page by page; there is no scroll mode for PDFs.
Themes
The reader theme changes the background around the pages. The PDF pages themselves keep their own colors.
Right to left
For PDFs of manga or right-to-left languages, turn on Right to Left in Appearance (Mac) or Themes & Settings (iPhone and iPad). The arrow keys and page turns follow it.
Contents, search and highlights
- Contents appears when the PDF has its own table of contents.
- Search: ⌘ F on a Mac (and iPad with a keyboard), or the search option in the reader menu.
- Highlights, notes and bookmarks work as in other books. See Highlights, Notes and Bookmarks.
Password-protected PDFs
PDFs locked with a password or copy protection can’t be imported. See Import Problems.
