BookShelves is free to download and use with up to 10 books. Pro removes the limit and adds sync and a few extra features.
What the free version includes
- Up to 10 books in your library, in every supported format.
- The full reader: fonts, layout settings, five themes (System, Light, Dark, Sepia and Quiet), highlights, notes and bookmarks.
- Discover and OPDS catalogs. Downloads count toward the 10 books.
- Shelves, tags and book details editing.
The sidebar shows how many of your 10 books you’ve used. It turns orange when you’re close to the limit.

How to buy it
- Mac: open BookShelves > Settings and go to the Upgrade to Pro tab.
- iPhone and iPad: open Settings and tap Pro.
You also see the upgrade screen when you reach the 10-book limit or try a Pro feature. The price is shown in the app in your local currency.
Pro is a one-time purchase.
One purchase, all your devices
Pro unlocks BookShelves on your Mac, iPhone and iPad, as long as they use the same Apple Account for App Store purchases.
Restore a purchase
On a new device, or after reinstalling:
- Mac: BookShelves > Settings, the Upgrade to Pro (or Pro) tab, then Restore Purchases.
- iPhone and iPad: Settings > Pro, then Restore Purchases.
Restore Purchases is also at the bottom of the upgrade screen. If you see No previous purchases found, check that the device is signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought Pro with.
Once Pro is active, the Pro screen says You’re a Pro!
